Our Story

We are small private shelter located in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. We started our mission in 2017, however established our non profit in 2021. In 2023 we have officially completed the build of our shelter and received license and registration in the Traces system. Our shelter is currently home for around 100 dogs and 30 cats, all saved from horrible conditions and the street. Our main goals are to re-home/save and neuter as many stray animals as possible.

Bulgaria's dog problem

Seeing the life that the street dogs in Bulgaria have can be heartbreaking. Many street dogs come from being abandoned, either because they are ill, pregnant or the people simply do not want them anymore. There is a trend, many people do not neuter or care for their dogs and use them as alarms to guard their properties. Many puppies are being abandoned as a result of this. Dogs are family, not throw away accessories as they are often treated here.

Sponsor a Dog/Cat!

Support our shelter by sponsoring a dog! The cost of vital supplies for one dog for one month is
30 EUR. You can set up monthly payments or pay on an annual basis. If you would like to part-sponsor a dog, then any amount would be gratefully received. In return, we will send you a personal "Thank you!" e-mail and update you regularly! Don't forget to add Animal Last Chance Foundation to your safe sender list and let us know if you're not receiving our e-mails!

Volunteers

We are looking for volunteers who are experienced with dogs and have lots of energy to give to our hard working shelter! You MUST have experience of handling dogs, or at least be very confident around dogs, some of which are large breeds. All we ask is that you are positive, hard working, happy to help with cleaning tasks, and have a passion for dogs and training them so they can go on to loving homes. We also welcome volunteers who have skills such as building and carpentry to help with ongoing building projects and maintenance.
